Social bookmarking is the practice of saving bookmarks to a public web site and describing them with tags. Tags are labels or keywords that can be applied to just about anything on the Internet. Delicious is one of the most popular social bookmarking services.
Social bookmarking sites are typically free. Once you register, you are able to store your bookmarks in your account, access them from any computer with Internet, add tags of your choice, and designate your individual bookmarks as public or private. You can search for resources by keyword, person, or popularity and see the public bookmarks, tags, and classification schemes that other users have created and saved. Socially bookmarking sites typically give you a little tool called a “bookmarklet” that is added on to your browser toolbar. When you get to a web site you like, you click on the tool, and it saves the bookmark into the web service.

Tags are used in all kinds of social media. They are keywords or labels that help you organize your content. In Delicious, you use tags to organize your bookmarks. You can assign as many tags as you want to a bookmark and you can make up your own tags. For example:
Link sharing sites allow anyone to share links and a brief description of any site they are interested in. Other users can vote, digg, or otherwise indicate their interest (or lack thereof) in the resource. The links with the most positive votes naturally flow to the top of the page where they get greater visibility. Some link sharing sites allow categorizing, key words, or other mechanisms for finding them.
